Pv has been fun for me and my son and some buddies this year. The perch seem to be a bit bigger with some good eating fish in the schools.
My best spot has been north side of cemetary point in 22-31' fow. The bite has seemed best at sunrise and hot again at about 2pm until dark for the perch. After dark the perch seem to disappear and the crappie come out in full force, and i mean in full force.
5-10 feet of my flasher blackened out with giant schools of crappie.
i have had great success using perch meat and eyeballs on spoons and small jigs. As well as waxies of course. Glow has worked well too.
I also like to use marmooshkas and wolfgram tungsten jigs because they get down so fast.
As far as where to fish, i personally prefer to find 22-31' feet of water. The lake has a ton of panfish its just finding an active school or making them bite
As far as crappie at night, me and my buddy the past few trips have tried new random locations and each night we found a ton of crappie and caught a bunch but no fish over 12". My belief is that the lake has such a high population of 1-2-3 year class crappie, that have stunted the overall growth. Lots of crappie to be had on pv just not the size we have had over the past 5 yrs.
One of the crazy things i have noticed is that i have caught crappie suspended in 8 fow, normally i catch my bigger fish suspended 5-8 feet off the bottom...
I hope people are catching the crappie cuz they sure could use some thinning of the herd, the ones that dont make it back down and are small get scaled, gutted and fried up for finger food.
if you have any more questions feel free to ask away, i am willing to help out but cant give away all my secrets
Ice is super thick i believe i measured it close to 20"+ inches....
biggest perch i have caught out of pv is close to 11" with man in the 8-9" range.
The biggest factor for me catching fish is my "flasher" the bite has been so dang light with out my flasher and watching them come to my jig i would never have any idea
hope this helps catch some fish
pm with any questions glad to help and share some info[
