visiting in early spring

i am taking a trip to south central missouri in late feb -early march. i will be staying south east of west plains and was wondering what fishing opportunities i might be able to enjoy. i am bring a canoe and dont mind driving a bit to do a little fishing.what does everyone fish for around there this time of year?
