[#800000]Congratulations to those who have contributed to this thread in a positive manner. I hope to continue in that vein by adding a couple of thoughts of my own that are NOT directed at any one person.[/#800000]

[#800000]In these types of threads, it is all too common for some members to be driven by their emotions instead of scientifically validated facts. Studies on northern pike management have been, are, and will continue to be conducted here and elsewhere due to a constant change in our planets environment. This is a good thing.[/#800000]

[#800000]I believe that most Utahans tend to forget that the vast majority of our water impoundments are manmade and that the PRIMARY purpose in developing all of them was to secure culinary and secondary water for consumption and irrigation. Water recreation (including fishing) has always been secondary. When compared to other parts of the country such as the Midwest where 99% of the lakes are natural and almost never used for irrigation, the comparison is apples vs. oranges.[/#800000]

[#800000]And it never ceases to amaze me how many of our members with little or no education beyond high school think they are better suited to managing our fisheries programs than the professionals working for the DWR with advanced degrees. We do have a few members (but damn few) that can actually go head to head with fisheries folks in the DWR and hold their own. The rest think they are experts because they went fishing a couple of times and read an article or two in some fishing magazines or on-line.[/#800000]

[#800000]Again, congratulations to those who did the research, performed the analysis, and contributed clear headed, factual information in a responsible manner. While that decreased the entertainment value of this thread, it increased the knowledge level and understanding of the real problems associated with the Yuba Reservoir northern pike population.[/#800000]
