OUTFISHED
#1
Took my doughter out to yuba to see if she could get her first pike, showed up at painted rocks about 8 was suprised only about 6 truck down by the ramp, guess they thought the superbowl would be better, NOT!. Headed out to where me and the better half iced 6 last saterday, 34 the biggest, after about a half hour jigging was boring so i set up her jaw jacker with a hole chub with 2 trebles, didnt see nothing until 10 I pulled a 20 up on my tip up, about 10:30 her first one at 30 inches, come right up much fight, no sure who was prouder me or her, I got one more on the tipup and one jigging, both about 20, about 2:30 her jaw jacker flipped up again no fish on it, had her just jig it for a second and it took it, fought it for about 10second and off, checked the bait and back down, no sure if she even made it back in the tent, this time it was on, rod jsut a bouncing, she come just a running, this one wanted to fight, taking line she was a realing, finaly i had to move the line to get its head up through the hole, grabbed and out, nothing better, it was by farr my best day fishing even though I got out fished.

Good for you getting your daughter on the biggest fish of the day, thanks for sharing your report and pics. How far did you have to walk to get to your spot once you were on the ice?

Took the wheeler about half mile south, ther must have been a parking lot full saterday from all the tracks, most of them headed north, I think theres pike everywhere, Ive caught them from 6 to 25 ft, using a tip up with whole chubs to jigging a rattle trap, remember to always change it up if your not seeing much action.[fishin]

In that big area, ATV's and snow machines are the best way to go, if you have them. I think the mistake we made, we fished from Qasis, so we mainly fished the other half of the lake, there have been many more reports of members doing good on the painted rock end, so I believe there are bigger numbers on that end for some reason. Thanks for the info.

When Im fishing on a point I drill about 10 holes from the bank to where it flattens out, fish on for about 10 to 20 minutes, move to the next, no sense in waiting for them, go find them, most all the tracks headed for the narrows. if you come from Oasis I would hit the south side just befor you get to the narrows, on those 2 ridges that come out.

Sounds like we were fishing the same way you were and we did fish those two ridges you mentioned. We did catch one 24" pike but that was it. We ended up moving 5 or 6 times all the way to the narrows. We ended the day back where we started but no more willing fish. We did catch our only fish on a jaw jacker and it went off two more times but no more hookups. That is a long way to drive, so if I make it there again this winter, I'm hoping for better luck. I think the other side of the lake will be a better choice to try. When you were fishing with the chub, were you letting it lay on the bottom or suspend above the bottom?

I suspend them off the bottom about a foot, if one trips it put it back down to the depth it was and jig it alittle, he might be mad he didnt get it the first time.[Wink]
