Hyrum a No Go
#1
Tried to go this morning to swim beach. Way too big of edge margin, then hit state park and the gap isn't too wide but ice looks very rotten I didn't want to polar plunge So I didn't attempt. Best spot looks like between end of ramp and ice but see picture for what it looks like. Good luck I'm heading to the pig. J

Did you get on the ice at porcupine? I wouldn't think that was and easy task either. Let us know how you did.

Porcupine was much better but still not what I'd call great. The gap is only 5-6' wide so easy to cross. The ice is ugly full of air bubbles and probably on its tail end of fishable. There was 18" of ice so I went out on even though its getting rotten. I did get two Kokes and another guy and his son came out a little later than I did and he got a nice brown approx 18". The Kokes were 11" and 10" today. Slow but I did catch fish out of both clouds that swam past. I just couldn't get my hook back in the hole fast enough to get a second one per pass. One bunch I had four hits before I set the hook so they are catchable if you get over a school. Who knows how to find spots they swim past more often? Anyway I suspect tomorrow will be okay, but if it stays this warm it will be over by next weekend. It will probably be busy tomorrow since its the only ice in town. The roads up there are solid ice be careful so you don't slip and fall. My Yax Traxs saved my bacon today. Later J

Thanks for the report. Glad you got a couple of kokes today. I'm surprised you got on today. How much snow and slush is on the ice once you get on it? Was it raining or snowing up there today?

Hey Rod,
Hyrum did look just plain scary. Either needs a lot of cold or let the wind blow. I'm ready to get the boat out. I'm sure some will still get on but the ice at the edges looks so rotten you'll need a real long plank to get to safer ice if there is any. Good luck if ya try it. Later J

No slush or wet by the dam but up stream I seen water on top. It was both rain and snow depending on the cloud. Later J
