Porcupine report 2-22-14
#1
Hit the Pig today and it squealed and wouldn't give up much. Got 3 Kokes and a nice hit that was probably a brown. The ice has healed since last weekend and may last a while longer as long as it doesn't get too hot for too long. Met Lil Fish and his Dad and Bro, had a great visit, nice to meet ya'll. I won't spill too much of your report other than congrats on your first Koke. Also very nice brown too. Hope you kept catching after I left. Later J

We ended with 11 kokes and 2 browns the last brown was 21 inches long. Thanks to skunkedagain for helping me with tips and pointers. We went home at 3:30pm. Here are some pics. All browns were let go.

Edit: Remember not to check the inline box unless you follow the full procedure for posting pics inline.

Very nice, did you ever let your Dad and Bro catch some? Looks like I needed to be taking tips from you. Nice job. Did Got Bait catch fish too? Those little Kokes are so tasty and easy to clean and fillet they are almost fun to get ready to eat. But I didn't have as many as you did either. Thanks for the pics. Later J

My brother caught three, dad caught two. I think got bait did get some. We went and got the tent when the wind and storm kicked up so we didn't visually see any come up but we heard some talk from over his way. We will be eating them for dinner.

Nice report and pics Jeff and LIL_FISH, it sounds like staying longer paid off for him. Were you guys fishing in the same general area as your last few trips Jeff?

Stickers anyone? Maybe you need a BFT - freak flag to fly?
Just walk up, and sneeze, saying BFT as you do, if they respond "Gesundheite" you'll know not, otherwise you can share the super secret handshake.

Anyone can do it

Of course - if you're lobbying a politician, it looks more like this:

Jeff, sorry I missed your text, seems like I missed out on another good pig in the poke - again. Personal reasons, wouldn't have made it out anyway.

But - nice to know that someone did some catching. Not so much snow down here, but I heard word Beaver got pelted pretty good.

Maybe the full figured feminine vocalist has yet to make her performance.

Nice work, LIL FISH. That one trout, at least the 21"er, is a cutt.

No, it is a brown. I think the flash in the pic made it look like a cut, so I can see where you could think it is a cut. If I would not have caught the fish I would have been right there with you of thinking it is a cut. I am pretty good on my ID, and again it is a brown.

Hey Curt, we fished in the same spot as Monday, we moved more toward the center of things in 95 FOW. Seems like more fish moved by out there later in the day. Early was good in close, but they seemed to go out later in the day. Don't know if that is really true, but that has been consistent for two trips anyway. Only problem was they are more finicky out there and not every school will take my offering. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for another trip next week. Dang fish are driving me nuts that I can't limit out. Later J

Hey Yote, sorry I missed ya again, but I understand how other priorities goes... That's why I keep taking off before the fish start biting... Somehow being home by noon is sort of tough on catching many fish, but it gives me a good excuse for low numbers... At least I try to talk myself into believing that's my problem... Hey maybe next week we'll try again, if not there is always boat season up there... Catch ya later... J

Yup that was fun, now we know why you needed boots since there wasn't any slush, the boots came in handy for the BS that was getting pretty deep... Enjoyed the visit, made a fun day on the ice. Plus now there are witnesses to the stupid look on my face as that fish tried to pull the pole out of my hands and I wasn't smart enough to jerk and set the hook.... Guess I was way too much into that story at the time... I'm glad you guys came up, now we can tell the deer story that proves Bambi was right, deer do fall flat when they get on ice.... Catch you guys later, maybe chasing catfish this spring if ya come up to visit Lil Fish again... C/ya J

SkunkedAgain we will have to definitely get together and go get some cats. They are probably in my top 3 of all time species I love to target. That deer on the ice was probably one of the funniest things I have ever seen a deer do.

Sounds good, once I get them biting lets go catch some. We are hoping things will return to normal after the drain last winter, but I suspect it will be something less than last year. But hopefully it will work, if not there's always Willard and maybe we could pick up our wipers too. Later J
