Oscar and Harriet Salem, along with their children, Lillian, age 12, and Harry and Ben, ages 7 and 5 from Montclair, NJ chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL. We had winds out of the east, northeast at 11 mph, blue skies, seas running 3-4 ft.

As the family boarded the boat at Bahia Mar in Fort Lauderdale, the two boys had many questions – their ensuthiasm was high. Fifteen minutes later, lines were in the water off of Fort Lauderdale. We put two plainers down and four surface baits. I trolled from one wreck to the other looking for some fish for the two young boys; one of the surface rods went off – Ben was our angler and he reeled in a 38” Barracuda, which left him with a big Smile on his face. Sailfish right long and left long!!!! Two Sailfish chasing the baits around and finally capturing their dinner as the two Sailfish exited the water at the same time, one heading south and the other heading east. Husband and wife competed against each other with a his and hers Sailfish, while the kids cheered on mom and pop. Oscar was the first to bring his Sailfish to the boat – 86” – as Mark, our mate, grabbed the Sailfish for picture taking and release. Harriet was doing a fantastic job on her fish – five minutes later her Sailfish was brought to the boat, pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released. Mom won – her Sailfish was 91” long.
