Mark Earle along with his son, Gus, and friend, Ollie, from England chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL. We had variable winds out of the east, seas running 1-2 ft., with blue skies, temperature in the mid 80’s, a big difference compared to the weather in England.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale. We put two plainers down, one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon, the other with a black and pink sea witch in front of a double hook Bonito strip. For surface baits we had two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips. I trolled from one wreck to another wreck and hooked up on both plainer rods over one of our deeper wrecks located in 280 ft. of water. Gus and Ollie were our anglers; Mark leaned over the side and gaffed the double header Wahoos.

The boys made a request for some Shark fishing so I went out to 380 ft. of water off of Fort Lauderdale and put out three Shark baits – surface, mid-range and bottom, and put out one kite with two live Goggle Eyes. While sitting and waiting patiently, the bottom rod bend over, as line screamed off the 80 International Reel. Gus and Ollie took turns doing battle with the Shark. Thirty-five minutes later, Mark grabbed a hold of the 77” Hammerhead Shark for picture taking and then was released to fight again.
