I've never fished Willard - just towed the kids behind the boat out there in midsummer. This Sat afternoon is about the only chance I will get this spring to take my wife out in the boat to chase a few fish, and Willard has been tentatively settled on as the target. But I'm concerned about the change in weather.
Is it worth going out after wipers and walleye with all this cool rain as of late?
I don't have planer boards, but am hoping that since I will be trolling only with the bow mount electric, I won't be spooking them away from the boat as much so won't be as much need for them. Is that a reasonable assumption?
The plan is shad raps, scatter raps, rattle traps, and perhaps a few heavy-headed soft plastics bounced/jigged off the bottom while trolling. I'll start slow given the cooler weather, but not opposed to 4-5mph on the electric to try for reaction strikes. Any other suggestions one what I should be considering?

I was thinking the same thing for tomorrow, I wanted to take the boat out early morning. Had a report from a friend that the crappie are hitting hard on charteuse jigs fished from shore.
Just threw the BFT sticker on the boat and truck, if you see me feel free to say hi. Maybe we can share information. Will probably launch from the south ramp.
Any other suggestions on tactics for a first time fisherman on Willard (have boated there before several times) would be invalueable. I saw that someone metioned mussells on another post about Willard??

Mussels are a good bait for cats and wipers from shore. Hard to find sometimes and hadd to get to stay on the hooks.

I likely won't see you out there tomorrow unless you stick around until evening. The wife keeps her office open on Sat until 1, so probably can't hope to get out there until after 4. Hopefully the showers will stay away.
After going back and reading April/May posts for the last couple years, I think I'll be looking to a slower bottom bouncer / spinner rig as the primary rig for the cooler weather.
Still not sure about the weather factor though. Wish I could wait for better weather, but that may mean not getting out with the wife this spring.

your plan is good but the weather will be very iffy tomorrow ,so if you go be very careful no fish is worth a life. on the otherhand I think you will catch fish. I personally don't think the crowds will be bad with the conditions right now.
