Utah lake? Is it worth a trip?
#1
Hey everyone I'm new to the forum and me and a buddy where looking at coming up to Utah lake to fish for a weekend at the end of May for largemouths only. Is it worth a trip up there or not? We are coming from Elko nv.

Thanks for the help. Tight lines.

UL has some great bass, but there are a bunch of better destinations on the way, IMO. UL has poor structure, and a prevalence of other fish. Bass are not rare, but they are not everywhere, nor numerous.

Is there a lake you would suggest?

If your looking for numbers of fish Ut lake may not be it. But for a few quality fish it's not bad. As far as time of year thats as good as any.

Utah Lake can definately be tough if you don't know what you are doing. Utah Lake can be tough even if you do know what you are doing. I still get skunked every now and then. 90% of the fish are in 1% of the lake.

Are you boat or shore fishing?

If you wanted to catch numbers of Largies, I would hit Mantua reservoir in Northern Utah just out of Brigham city. That lake is chuck full of bass, but the size is not the best. A good fish is 16 inches or so with an average of 10 inches or so, where as UL fish average 16 inches and 1 out of 4 fish top 4 lbs.

I've seen some MUCH bigger bass in and coming out of Mantua, too. Personally cauvht a 23" largemouth there. But yes, overall not huge. Jordanelle is good for smallies.

You guys coming from Elko through Wendover? Cuz heading south mighy be even better. Powell, Sand hollow, and Quail Creek. I am NOT a bass fisherman, though. Just a guy who occasionally catches bass.
