First DC SMB is a nice one

I hit Deer Creek early this morning in the tube. Although the water is still a bit cool (51, 2 degrees cooler than Saturday) I still wanted to see if I could find any active Small Mouth.

Top water was hit once.

So I moved to jerk baits (a technique I learned from Cliff in his free seminar a few months ago.)

MY FIRST CAST -- I was jerking in a jointed rapala (closest thing I had to carp colors) and WHAM! I reeled in my personal record Small Mouth Bass! 14"+!

Well with that luck I thought I'd hit a few more... but nothing.

I switched to targeting trout for the remainder of the morning and landed 20 in under two hours on an olive mohair and dragging a wedding ring. A 21 fish morning and I was off the lake by 9AM.

The SMB and one bow came home for tummy time. The bass made a great lunch!

I did my personal best for a LM today at Utah lake, 20 in, 6.2 lbs. Pictures are on my son's phone. Will post picture tomorrow when he sends them to me. We also got two more at 13in each.

The Carp are swimming in pods all over in the shallows. Early morning is a bow fisherman's paradise up there.

I've been able to sneak up and whack them on the back with my fly pole for the past three weeks.
