Welcome to BFT and good for you for being committed to get your children out fishing. I fish from a boat, so I will leave it to some of the other members to give you ideas for bank fishing. I will make one general observation, there are several great reservoirs to fish from the bank up Fairview canyon.

With the way many on this site post and ask questions, it's hard to believe that Utah consists of more than just Ogden to Provo. Generally what part of Utah do you hope to get information on? I live in the Northeast and have dozens of waters that would fit the bill. Aside from a good place to fish, the best thing you could do for you and your kids fishing future is to find someone who is willing to show you how to be successful on your fishing trip. You can go to the best fishing water in the state only to be frustrated by not catching fish but with a little one on one coaching/guidance you can have the time of your life. You will need to know something about rods, reels, line, knots, swivels, snaps, lures and bait and how best to present them to the fish. Fishing is only fun when there's some catching to go with it, especially with kids. Very few would dumb enough to do it otherwise. So where do you want to go and what do you want to catch?

Don't discount the community ponds too. They are geared for easy access, and fish-ability.
For kids - bobber fishing can be a good way to go - something to watch. Sliding sinkers or drop shot setups can be fun, get some decent rod holders. Find a lake with easy trout, or perch. Of course Bass and Bluegills can be entertaining. Then there's CATFISH! Oh, and CARP!

How far are you hoping to go? What gear do you already have? How old are the kids? How much have you ever been fishing? These answers can all help make the suggestions easier.
For easier fishing, I would suggest the community ponds or lakes that are heavily stocked. Those fish will hit almost anything.
One of my favorite for just easy camping and shore fishing is the Payson lakes up Payson Canyon. They have some nice improved campsites are paved all the way into the camping / parking spot and the lakes are quite small and heavily stocked. Earlier mornings and later evenings are generally your best times no matter where you go.
Most of the lakes most people talk about on here are larger lakes that are easier to fish from a boat than from shore. However, you can have success from shore as well. Strawberry is my favorite. You can fish from shore near the dam on the Soldier Creek side and catch crawfish while you are waiting for a fish to hit. My favorite setup for Strawberry from shore is use a large egg sinker with a swivel tied below it to keep it from going all the way down to the hook. Below the swivel, put about 2' of leader then a hook with either worm or powerbait.
Good luck and let us know what you decide to do and how well you do.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and feedback.
We live in the Draper area and are willing to travel 60-90 minutes right now. My kids are ten, seven and three. I went down to Cabelas last weekend and bought everyone a rod and a bunch of rooster spinners, powerbait, etc. I went with an ugly stick but with another reel.
Question on rafts... Would you guys feel safe with your kids on a fishing raft? If so, what one would you get?
I really appreciate the tips and help!

The rubber rafts are good for small lakes like in the uintas. Wouldn't want my kids on one in a reservoir with all The power squadron. Now they use float tubes.

Welcome to the board ROTO.
What ever you do, don't go to Smith & Morehouse! Cause if you do, you may not go anywhere else for a long time. That place is SO beautiful and there are always plenty of fish (not big but plentiful). When ever I want to take someone to a beautiful lake with wonderful camp grounds, I always opt for Smith & Morehouse.
Toss Meps, Blue Fox, and about any other small trout spinner. From the bank or the boat, that place is a wonderful place to start experimenting with fishing and camping.
