Snake river sturgeon report
#1
Fished the mighty Snake river with dtayboyz and his beautiful wife last Thursday the 10th. We launched and went upstream through two sets of rapids in his jet boat and dropped into a deep hole that was over 90ft deep in spots. We were right at the bottom of a set of class 4 rapids with a couple of hundred feet of vertical drop, Water falls were all along the river as we made our way upstream, it was an awesome view. I’m going to add some of the pics and maybe some video clips at the end if possible. Hopefully Dale will correct me on some of the lengths of the fish if I get them wrong. We were using these 14 ft rods and fishing directly below the boat with morts. The first fish Dale caught but he handed the rod off to me and I reeled in a 4 to 5 ft fish. The next fish, I caught and that is on the video, it was a 79 incher and took 15 to 20 minutes to reel in. Dale caught the next fish and reeled in one that was the same size of the one I had just caught but this one decided to give us some top water action and jumped about three times, what a site to see a fish that big come out of the water. The last fish of the day belonged to Dale’s wife, this one was smaller but it still gave her a good fight. I was happy to get another chance to fish with Dale, he really knows the river and knows how to catch those huge fish. Thanks Dale, it was a great day on a very beautiful section of the Snake.

Way to go Curtis. Don't understand why Dale uses such long rods from a boat, but it is working.

If I'm not mistaken, it was more of an issue of dtay already having the rods and not feeling the need to buy another set of rods.

Man, who cares how long the rods are, dtay sure knows how to catch those fish and have a good time!

Yea, he told me the same reason that johnnycake said, but since I did not have to bring my own gear, it was fine with me. Last year I brought my shorter rod from home and it was a pain to bring it up in the car. Besides, those rods have had a lot of lucky folks handle them over the years and it has warn off onto them[Wink].
Lot of leverage with those rods too.[cool]

Sure was a fun day in the river and real nice to see you again. Gertrude belongs to my wife (so she says)Smile. I already owned all the poles before I got the Gertrude, they were for bank fishing (so you can cast). The water is still up enough but man is it hot and I've been busy working on RV air conditioning. Had 16.48 lbs of smallie a last Saturday good enough for 2nd place. Provo this weekend then cascade the weekend after. I'll put a new gasket on the fuel pump Friday, so maybe Gertrude ride next week, anyone wanna go? In august I have two bass tournaments at cj so I'll do some side imaging up the river for fall sturgeon fishing. Thanks again Curt.

If you have time to kill, or you need anything, while you are down in the Provo area just let me know.
