Bear lake help
#1
So family trip to bear river wondering if I need to buy down riggers or trolling rods trolling line. I have a 50 horse Johnson so it's pretty loud done a crap tone of research but can't make up my mind on technique to go for Mack's or cuts. My last trip I got skunked. Also used to be teeelow21 on here..

The title of your post says Bear Lake, but the text says Bear RIver. I assume you are talking about Bear Lake. You can fish (troll) Bear Lake with leaded line, but downriggers work a lot better at this time of year since you need to get down about 60' or more. However, you can also vertical jig (tubes or other jigs) tipped with either cisco or fish meat (sucker, chub, carp, etc.). This is effective if you spend a little time with you depthfinder looking for where the fish are. Right now it seems most of the trout (both cutthroat and lakers) are deep. Lately 80-85' has been the "zone" to start off in. If you aren't catching anything, then move either shallower or deeper. Good luck.
