Thinnin' about bumping out the contest ending through October, if anyone has any thoughts, objections.
NOTE: Made some updates, double checked scores.

Yote, looks like the numbers aren't accurate next to our handles. I suspect you may have old numbers feeding into it that didn't update in your spreadsheet. Mine should be 79.5 now and I know Mikes should be 91 unless he's improved it. Looks like Hogstalker nailed a nice one over the weekend too. He might be bumping you down a spot with that one. October is fine to me, but my wife might hunt you down, she seems to think I have a problem being too focused in this contest. Something about not even sleeping anymore so I can get my fishing fix. Seriously though, I'm not thinking that I would like to see the contest date extended. I'm already in the dog house with my wife for being "obsessed with this fishing thing" and hunting season starts at the end of September for me. I wouldn't be able to give it much effort after about the second week of September. My redneck brain can only handle so much stimulation before it explodes! Oh, and let's not forget that the lakers are gonna be in a frenzy on bear lake so I'm screwed with too many fun options at once[  ] (I probably ought to try fitting work in there at some point)
I think we should shut it down September 30th as planned and see who did their best with the known time they had just to keep it fair with what we thought we were getting into, especially so it doesn't look like it's being extended to get either the north or south or other individuals further along then they are at that time.
Oh, and for what it's worth, I think we all know that BLK is gonna sneak a monster or two in at the end and will be fishing like a mad man to do it in September . Retirement must be wonderful, that lucky dog! ]

Did have a couple entries slip in after I played numbers, and I full out missed one, which is now two. Yup - ANOTHER 30+ for the north. Hmmm. Maybe BLK is glad I haven't counted that yet.
I'll go through and recount. Sometimes my files get out of sync. PLEASE keep me honest, appreciate the extra eyes.
As for ending date, I'm good with leaving it as it. Just thought I'd float the idea, but as stated on the contest board, I don't like to change rules mid-game (it's not Calvin and Hobbs ball after all). And your point about fall hunting is valid. Some of us do have to budget our time and can't go fishing each and ever (fracking) day! I just fear by the time I'm old enough to be retired, I'll be TOO tired!
I'll review, and include the "entries" on my list, so it's easier to double check my math and fat fingers.
Thanks guys. Don't forget to remember the ladies once in a while. Maybe a steak and box of chocolates now and then. And while they are doing the dishes THEN sneak out!

Hey Mike looks like Hogstalker overtook BLK, if Yote gives him full credit on that last one. Picture isn't the best for showing length. So every time I start to get closer to competitive, I end up further out. I guess without several 30+"ers I won't have a chance. Does anyone know what the past contest winning scores were? Seems like more big fish to me this year, but maybe I'm just paying more attention this time. Well you still have a 6" lead over the next one and I suspect everyone else will need to at least catch two new big fish to come close to you. That's a great score you set and I suspect you will add another one to it. Well got to run. Later J

Thanks Jeff, hogstalker has me spooked now, hehe! I will probably only get a couple or so more outings before I have to fly back to Washington DC on sept 6 and when I get back on the 17th I will have very little time to try to bump up before my muzzloader hunt starts.
I may very well have posted my last bump up before this thing is over unless I get very lucky in the next three weeks.
Regardless of any of that, I have really had a blast this year participating in this contest and that is the real reward. If I happen to win then that will just be a bonus and icing on the cake! I've learned even more about the bear river, cutler and the habits of the fish that live there then I have previously known and the time spent chasing catfish with my kids and friends has been the real reward. It's been priceless fun and whomever wins this thing has got my support and enthusiasm for them right up front.
Now, that being said, GAME ON!! I need another 30"+to feed my masochistic ego![laugh]

I think you probably have a pretty good chance on winning this round, but there are a lot of good fishermen still working hard. The scores will probably tighten up, but 3 over 30" ave will be tough to beat. Good luck. J

Nice update Yote... as always.
Great big YES from this carp-stained old cataholic to extending the contest in to Oct. Sept. and Oct. have been my best months in the past. More fishin' time.... just makes sense to me.
And.... I would like to make a motion that Gmwhl be summarily ejected from the contest for suggesting that the contest be ended "right now"... while he is temporarily in the lead.[sly]
Fun contest! All on board my ship are having a blast. Several 30+ inchers will be posted up soon... just gotta ketch 'em first.

Well Yote, I don't mind extending the contest a bit if that is the majority vote. Also I don't mind if it ends as scheduled. I was riding hi at # 4 ( from the bottom anyway [sly] ) now I'm in the # 2 spot (from the bottom). I will keep trying best I can, but I don't foresee doing much other than getting into that # 1 spot (on the bottom)

Hey, I'm good with whatever on the contest end date. Gmwahl makes some good points in support of leaving it as is. Maybe go through Oct. next year? Whatever.
Just keep tallying those mini-30 entries from up north. When the bell rings we will have some heavy-duty entries from the south that will "shock and awe" you fellers from up north.
I still say the best is yet to come.[ ]

Hey John, sorry to be a pain and it won't matter because it will have to be replaced anyway, but I have a 25"er as my 3rd position fish. Oh good grief, griping over a half inch, you're as bad as Lavaman! It's hard to keep up with ya buddy, between all the "non" entries, and incremental bumps. We should give you an award for the MOST entries!
Just giving ya carp Jeff. Thought I'd double-triple checked, but that's why I do ASK folks to check their scores, keep me honest.
Now go find that 30 before I get around to it, so I've REALLY got something to rate!
I'm not so sure about pigging this afternoon. Flash flood warnings - wonder if that little canyon could wash? Was hoping to nab a few more pinkies for the smoker - my neighbors eyes lit up when I told him Kokes are Salmon! Like to donate some smokey treats as incentive to get that 18 horse running!

Hey John, sorry I didn't see this sooner. Fishing was slow, but fun to spend the morning with Dad. It was breezy, but nice weather otherwise. Hope you get a chance to grab a few more before the close. Actually if I read the reg correctly it isn't a closure on the silver fish so I think you can still fish for them, but you take the chance of catching and harming spawners so I'm okay to be done for a few months. No worries, I'll get the scores sorted out. Probably have new entries before the weekend is up anyway.
So I re-read it too, and they say you can't keep any with signs of RED, so does PINK count as red? From all I've heard they don't release very well, so I too would worry for hurting them.
I noticed some were real aggressive, while others swam in like a wet noodle and seemed almost drained by the time they got to net.
Then SOME had some serious weight to them - especially when they were dragging my other line! Grrr.
Don't know how the back end it to launch, but that front area is getting gushier and dropping fast.
I think it's time I get back after the Kitties! Finally got knocked from third, surprised I sat there that long. Guess it's time to go find another 30!

Yup I think its catfish time again too if I can get my farming and nephews eagle project completed. I might of blown my only chance this morning when I didn't go. Hope not, hope I find another chance. Good luck getting your ranking back. Later J
