River from Rockport to Echo
#1
Going camping near Echo Canyon tomorrow and we want to fish nearby. I don't want to try fishing Echo Res; the reports say it's very slow, and I would rather spend time on a river, as the scenery is nicer even if we get skunked. I can be convinced to fish Echo Res, if someone has other information.

I understand I cannot fish the Weber north of Echo because it's privately owned. How far do I need to travel down I-84 before I get to parts of the Weber that I can fish?

Can I fish anywhere along the stretch of river from Rockport to Echo? What is that river called? And what about the river that feeds Rockport from the South? Is that good fishing?

And finally, anyone have success with spinners (mepps, anglia, rooster tails, jakes, etc.) any of these stretches of rivers? My sons and I only own spinning rods.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice on fishing this area.

That sir is the Weber River. It flows into and out of Rockport. There's actually quite a bit of access points along that stretch. I haven't fished it with spinners but I would bet you'd find some good success with them. I personally love the stretch where Lost Creek comes into the Weber. I've had a lot of success there. You could also try Lost Creek. That little creek can be lots of fun.

Hopefully somebody else with more knowledge of using spinners on the Weber can chime in. I've only fly fished it so that's all I can provide.

There are two sections f private land east f the 80 bridge. The first piece is roughly 2 miles upriver of Judd lane. The second is a very small section beaned the spring chicken in. Th rest is private, but allows easements

Started at Lost Creek Reservoir and we caught two 16" trout within the first 10 minutes. My son got his on a silver spoon with red dots, and I caught mine on a green spoon. Then no bites for about another hour.

Fished Lost Creek a bit just below the Res, then fished Weber where Lost Creek joins it.

Stopped again on the Weber just South of Hobson Lane in Hoytsville. Caught one 12" cut on a Panther Martin (thanks hogstalker!) after about 45-60 minutes of fishing. Then I had to go home to get to work by 3.

Thanks for all the tips, everyone.

Fishing has been pretty consistent in that stretch all spring and summer with a slight slowdown with the warmer temps, in another month they will turn on again really good for both flies and lure fisherman.
Just check the access points that are online and it will show you all the area that are private and public.
