I'm looking to go after a mess of perch. I'm hoping to get enough to cook up some fish tacos. The trick is, I only have a couple of hours tonight to go and get em. So, what I'm wondering is. Where can I go? and What should I use?
I live in Orem, so I know Deer Creek, Jordanelle, and UL have them, and would be my best chances at catching them, but so far I haven't had much success with them at any of the three locations.
If anyone has some friendly advice they'd be willing to share, It'd be much appreciated. PMs Welcome.

If it's not too long a drive for you, Fish Lake is our place for good batch of them.

Fish lake ends up being about 5-6 hours of Travel. Otherwise I'd love to get down that way. Maybe I'll have to plan a camping trip one of these weekends.

Sounds like its simple enough. I guess my issue is just knowing where the weeds are. The couple of times I've gone out after them I've come back empty handed.
If you had a little more direction for me, That'd be much appreciated.

The other thing I should mention is I'm after them from shore. No boat, tube, toon, or kayak to be had.

Perch, bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish; they ALL make great tacos.

There's some weed beds right where the Provo comes in. I like to stay at the edge of them but I have caught them going through the beds as well.
I've caught all mine on a fly so I don't know what to tell you to use.

Certainly wouldn't be opposed to this Idea as well. Just off the rocky points, Right? Anywhere that's easier than others for a bank tangler like myself?

I've always been hesitant to keep any Cats. Mostly because I'm not sure how to clean em. Hah.
I suppose I could look up some YouTube videos and see if there is a way thats better than others.

Thank you! I'll post some pictures of tonight's catch. (knock on wood)
If anyone has a good recipe for tacos, I'm open to new ways of cooking them too.

Plus one on the DC smallie thing; those are some good tasting fish and easier from shore than jordanelle perch. Lots of 8-10 inchers in there.

Thought I'd just share my report.
We ended up going to DC to chase some smallies. Parked between Rainbow Bay and The State park and walked down that incredibly steep cliff.
I didn't have any plastics with me, so we ended up pitching Rooster tails of all different colors for a couple of hours.
Managed to land 2 that were about 3 inches long. Then managed to hook into one of some serious size. Big enough that upon reaching the surface, he (to coin a phrase from TubeDude) "Raised his middle fin" and powered away, breaking my line in the process.. That'll teach me to not adjust my drag before fishing.
Not sure why we weren't having better success. Seemed like we were doing things right and in the right area to find em. It was INCREDIBLY windy, we managed to duck the rain for the most part though. Still a good getaway for a couple hours. Not sure if the storm was throwin them off.

[#0000FF]Sorry you didn't have a better day. With the up and down weather you probably did as well as could be expected...anywhere. There can be some good fishing along that stretch of shoreline...if you live to fish it. But on any given day the fish can be concentrated in only a few small areas...or just lying on the bottom and not responding to anything.
Location and timing. If you get those two right the choice of lures is almost secondary. But I suspect you may have had more success with some slowly fished plastics...under those conditions.
Also sorry you lost the biggun of the day. But that's what makes memories and gives you hope for coming back. Also what helps us learn the hard learned lessons in life...like using good line, good knots and setting the drag right. Fish do not break lines...fishermen do.
Better luck next time.

Wow, a perch broke your line? I mean you broke the perch's line? What test are you running? Maybe need a better knot. I don't know that lake, but from shore I might suggest drifting a jig or worm under a bobber, or running a drop shot rig off the bottom. Some gulp crappie nibbles can work.
But as say, and the rains and storms, who knows.
As for catfish, Youtube will show you the gutting and skinning method. But better is the slab and slive approach TD has documented for most all fish he filets. Just cut our the fatty greyline. Soak em in milk and cook em through (like chicken).
I think Rocky must have some BIG tortillas to fit ALL those fish in at once!

Just fillet them cat like any other fish. Tip: if they get a little dried off before hand makes for easy handling. 5 minutes in a little breeze will dry out the slime makes it alot easier.[fishin]
