Today was a fun day especially when I had to work 5 hours overtime till 2 am but that sure didn't stop me from going fishing. Got at Scofield state park around 10:30 am. 2 other groups were already up there before me and it was sure surprise to meet another bft member on the ice.
Ice is 5-6" with 2" of snow in most places. Fishing was pretty fast and furious for the kinky cutties like if they just planted thousands of 11" with a few 12-15" anorexic ones. I lost count of how many cutties I caught and only one small small 10" bow.
Had one really nice cutty on my line, fought for 10 minutes till it started too get tired but by the time I tried too grab it by the head it started paddling backwards, out comes the jig, and also probably the biggest cutthroat I've ever almost caught. Could of been easily 24" or 25". No other big ones were found that day.
Was using paddle bugs, dynamic ice lures, and Rat finkee tipped with meal worm or regular warm.
Warning!!! If you go to the state park anytime soon don't fish pass the buoy out by the end of the channel. It might look like save ice from far away but when I got closed it's thin with a few open pickets and with the snow drift covering making it look like it's safe. Make sure you got good snow tires if your driving in a small car and don't park by the docks, you might have a hard time getting out, suggest park higher on the right side, and make sure you got a shovel just in case if you get stuck. Ice cleats are a must if you don't want too slip in some areas.
Right after Scofield just took a quick look at Provo harbor and there's a really thin sheet of ice only by the boat dock and a little further out got ice. Hope more lake's get frozen soon so I don't have to travel far and wide again[:/].
If your the guy who I was fishing with is reading this I really appreciated you helping me set up with my new ice tent and sure had a blast fishing in the tent for a while with you and your wife or gf. Hope to fish with you and your gf or wife again. Sure were a great couple to fish with [
