That 1/2" of ice might be gone by this week with it being in the 40's F.

True, but firehole freezes pretty quickly.

It'll be 3 ft thick in March.

Hopefully, all the cold air stays in the canyon.

Either way, those burbot love the fresh ice.

I was up there this weekend and there was no ice outside Firehole until about 3 in the morning, after that there was ice forming on the entire lake down to the confluence. It was crazy how fast it went from no ice to a 1/4" of ice; it won't be long and ice fishing on the Gorge will be on! The water past the confluence up to Firehole is really green from algae and it seemed like fishing was slower in the "green" water. Ling fishing was good down towards the confluence but not fast and furious like past years for this time.
