Needed a break from work today so threw a #1 silver Vibrax at the Saratoga Springs harbor.
No hits, no follows, no nothing!
Ice half way across the harbor formed last night.

Well that's a bummer. At least you got some casting exercise. Thanks for the update.

Yeah, bad luck man. I hate getting skunked, especially when I'm seeing such encouraging reports about white bass.
Better luck next time! I'm happy to hear that we're starting to see a bit of ice at least. Maybe I will be able to fish the hard deck on UL this year after all.

[#0000FF]Bummer. Two possibilities. First, no fish there in the shallow water. They do move in and out from the main lake. If you time it right you can do well. If not...well... Second might be that in the colder water they are moving slower and not chasing spinners. Fishing under a bobber or other vertical presentations might work better.
Under pre-iceup conditions I usually fish a tandem jig rig with two light small jigs...tipped with worm...and almost dragging them on the bottom.
Once the ice cap forms, the white bass often become more active again...smacking Sonar spoons that are jigged vigorously.
If temps drop again this next week you can start this ice season like you finished up the last one. Just don't hop on the ice too soon and take another cold water bath.

I definitely prefer to stay on the ice, not through it!
I forgot to add in my original post that my fishing time was only for 20 minutes during my lunch break. Not really enough time to experiment a lot.
A friend of mine has asked for my help to test drive a boat this saturday that he is interested in. I assume DC is ice free?
If so what better way to test a boat than dragging a jig for a Christmas walleye.

[#0000FF]Should be no problem getting a boat on DC for a long time. Even in the colder winters it is often sometime in January before that deeper pond freezes over. There have been years when it never got beyond the skim stage. And this year has been warm so far.
Good luck with the walleyes. When float tubing for them this time of year I usually find both perch and walleyes at about 45 to 50 feet. But there have been recent reports of catching them shallower. Just check the usual spots and watch the sonar.
Hope Santa brings you a walleye.

20 min should be at least 20 fish if you reel them in and take them off slow lol. Clearly there is nothing there. Thanks for the report. I thought that pelican would be too shallow this year.

The post-Christmas forcast looks VERY favorable for ice in all Northern Utah locations, including U.L. It should be good to go for hard deck by New Years Day at the latest... Can't wait to get me some of those tasty panfish!
