Hi y'all, long time lurker first time poster. I'm an avid ice fisherman and moved to Vegas a year an a half ago. Since the move I've only gotten out ice fishing twice, so I'm itching to go bad. The closest option to Vegas is panguitch lake. My problem is I've never been there and know nothing about the lake. I'm planning on using the same lures and bait that I use at strawberry. I'm heading up tomorrow for a day trip so any advise or info on what to use or best places to access the lake would be great.
Thanks

I was there last week and the hot item for me was a white zinger with an orange tail tipped with a meal worm. It also seemed like they would bite more with no movement (jaw jacker caught most fish). I also caught a few on a silver slender spoon tipped with maggots. Nearly every rainbow I caught was 18", fat and fought very well!. My favorite place on the lake is on the north east side just below the cliff by the main road in 10 to 12 fow. Good luck and let us know how you do

Thanks for the info isda, it should be a blast catching something other than a lethargic berry cut! I'll post a report when we get back for sure.

You do realize that there are the same lethargic cutts in Panguitch L as there are at Strawberry?
When I used to fish Panguitch L. a lot through the ice, I did very well with rat finkies tipped with either mealies or good old salmon eggs. A jig like a maniac ice cutter tipped with bait would also probably tear it up.
As for other ice options, there are a few more in Southern Utah and don't overlook Eagle Valley in Nevada for decent ice action. I used to ice fish that one quite a bit in January and February when I lived in Vegas.

We had very excellent fishing there today...one of our best ice fishing trips there. It was fast enough that we couldn't manage 2 lines at the same time. We got there late around 11am. We stopped counting a couple hours later at 40 fish, but the bite was great even after sunset. 3/4 were cutts, 1/4 bows. 2 class sizes of cutts: mostly 17-18in, some 14-16in. Bows were fat footballs around 16 inches. Lure of the day was a white tube jig tipped with meal worm or night crawler (equally good). Most people were not catching anything and left home early around 2pm. The problem was that sonar showed no fish at the depth most people were fishing (25 feet). I drilled holes from shore to 45 feet. The fish were in the 40+ feet deep water, suspended between 18 - 35 feet deep. It definitely helped to have a sonar to be able to move your lure directly on a fish...probably resulting in a doubled or tripled catch rate. 90% of the fish were not aggressive, only "mouthing" the lure, so the "bump" to catch ratio was about 3 to 1. If you aren't catching fish, fish every foot of the water column, then move and drill holes elsewhere. We are trying a different lake tomorrow, just for a change.
