#1
Is it possible to drive to Haw's Point or even Renegade now with a 4x4 (Nissan Xterra).

Thanks and Happy Ice Fishing

I don't believe so. The road stops at the turnoff to the marina.

I agree, I think if I remember right from last weekend that they had snow pushed up and it blocks the road going that direction.

I talked to a guy that had an artic cat 4 seat side by side that went toward haws point and chaplain point said he barely made it back to the turn off going to the marina. He also said the fishing was terrible, but his buddy was catching fish as fast as he put in the day before.that was1-11-15. It was a slow day for me at the marina. it was great to get out of the city anyway.

We could hear the groomer on the road yesterday as we fished. So it depends on how your side by side is set up if you could make it on the groomed trail/road. With the warm weather the trail would be soft after 10AM,

Definitely wouldn't try it in a SUV or truck.

There is 8+ inches of good ice on the lake now and only a couple of inches of slush in spots. I think you could make it there over the ice just watch out for the areas with springs underneath.

Drive the snow packed road with a vehicle? Sure.... give it a try.... if you can get onto the road. You will sink into the packed trail along the way somewhere, so be prepared to air lift your vehicle back to solid ground. I saw a couple vehicles try it last year... I just passed them by on my sled. I figure if they were dumb enough to try it, they could get them selves out of the mess without my help. I came to fish.

A week ago last Friday, there was over 8 inches of ice at Renegade. Probably well over a foot this week. Not sure about the ice thickness out in the middle of the lake. Guys have been driving the packed trail with ATV's and UTV's for about 3 weeks now. With the new snow, it may not be as solid. I watched a group try to drive their UTV off the groomed trail at Renegade down to the boat ramp. They did not make it very far before the buried their machine. They eventually got their machine back to the groomed trail and walked down to the ice. One of the guys said to me, "it doesn't matter what color you paint it, it is still not a snow mobile".

Warm temperatures?? Not at Strawberry. When we left Salt Lake that Friday it was near 40 later in the day in the valley. When we arrived at the berry at 8:30 a.m., it was 0. When we left at 2:30 pm, it was 17. That is one cold valley. I will be heading up during the week after the 24th. I will be riding across the ice.
