My son's scouts wanted to try ice fishing so we took them yesterday. They weren't real excited about leaving early so we were leaving Orem about the time I like to arrive at the lake. Some of them also needed to be back before noon so I knew it would be a very short trip and tried to cut some corners to save time.
We fished east of the docks in the dam arm as it was close to were we could park. I had everyone spread out ten to fifteen feet to drill there holes which would have made about a sixty foot circle or better. We ended up with less then twenty. All holes showed the water to be between 12.5 and 13.5 feet deep with ice about a 16 inches deep. Almost nothing showed on the finder the whole time there. All colors, baits and sizes of jigs were used with no luck. Three chubs were caught in the short time we had.
However the boys had a blast goofing off on the ice and the chubs were great entertainment. Shortest day I have ever had on the ice but everyone made it back in time for work or sports. If you want to catch fish don't do what we did. If all you are looking for is some good times and a lot of laughter go ahead and try it. It's a lot easier then catching fish.
