Mantua Bass 03/06
#1
I've been a lurker for a while now and it's probably time I start contributing so please be understanding while you read my less than wonderful report.
I decided to hit Mantua Friday 03/06. I've only been there once before and the water was hard on that trip. I finally made it to the reservoir at 1:30PM. I parked on the South East side and walked to the bump on the east side (Little Knoll?) I found a spot I liked and setup like I often do, one pole rigged with doughbait (I'm working on ending this tradition all together) and on another rod I try whatever seems to make sense. At about 4 the DNR officer came around and while I was talking to him I had my first bite. At the time I was floating a worm. Shortly after he left I decided to start throwing some of my bass gear. I tied on a SK 3/16th oz. jig with a 3" SK Rodent trailer. I ended up catching a 14" Largemouth and second one a little smaller.

That's really encouraging. I may have gotten a pass to fish this weekend, and I was debating on whether on not to chase bass or play it safe and catch trout. I think I just might go after some early bass.

Thanks everyone.

I should probably mention I did go back Sunday with a buddy. We were there by 8 AM and went to the same general area. We fished 4 or 5 different spots and I threw the same jig n' trailer combo, spinners, pop-r, and Senkos in 3 and 4 in. My buddy is a very much a trout hunter so he threw inline spinners and spoons. We left at 2ish and I had caught nothing, lost more gear than I'd like to admit to and my buddy caught two 12" rainbows. I have to wonder if the bass were waiting to get as much as sun as possible before they were going to eat...

With cold water bassin everything needs to slow down. Also they may go deeper due to cider temps as well. Look for drop offs and deep water structure.
