Never happen, the reason is:

1: June suckers
2: they already have the whities

Yeah with the current views and attitude by the guvment about the junies needing to be there and the pike not to be there, we have very slim chance of ever seeing any upgrades to most fish species other than junies there.

Apparently last year the DWR attempted to get some saugeye from CO but they're didn't have enough to go around.

Yes, the June sucker program will make it unlikely that wipers would be considered, but it isn't the only reason. Another is what would the wipers eat? At UL, once white bass reach a certain size, they pretty much subsist by cannibalizing their own young. Wipers wouldn't be much different and probably wouldn't perform all that well. There are no shad in UL and few chubs or shiners that they eat elsewhere.


UL is one of the rare lakes where you have a reasonable chance to catch 5 or more different species on a single trip, yet it never ceases to amaze me that folks want every other species under the sun put in there. ( and gripe about the woebegone June sucker when it doesn't happen. )
