Hit Pineview on Monday mid-day with the kids looking to see if we could drum up some crappie or bullheads from the shore. First spot we tried was a dud, so we moved to another that had more sun exposure and maybe would be more promising. It didn't take long until the first bite, then it was fish after fish. They were all bullheads, but the kids didn't care. Nightcrawlers or pieces of carp meat worked equally well. I never gave up on trying for crappie, throwing a jig under a bobber, but the bullheads wouldn't leave those alone either. Ended up taking home a big mess of them for a fish fry. My daughter counted 24 that we brought home. I know I kept putting a few back dreading having to fillet so many. Kids had a blast catching so many. Big goose egg on the crappie. The fish fry was awesome.

Looks and sounds like a really fun day! Good way to get them hooked on fishing. Thanks for sharing.

It was crazy busy at times. At one point I had 3 fish waiting to be un-hooked, aline waiting for bait, with a bite on another pole. Kids (and dad) had a great time. The kids have been boasting about it for a couple of days wanting to know when we can go back.

Thinking of taking my 5 kids up there this weekend...were you dropping the night crawler under a bobber or fishing it on the bottom? We cleaned up on Bullheads last fall on the bottom with a standard slip sinker rig. You are right, seemed like all you do is unhook fish, untangle lines and bait hooks! And I love every second of it....except for the 2 hour fillet marathon when you get home!
Thanks for the post!

I had the kids set up fishing on the bottom. I was dropping a jig tipped with a small piece of crawler or carp meat under a bobber. I think dropping it under a bobber was easier on hook removal with the jig. They couldn't swallow it and I was quick on the hook set. We also used size 2 or larger hooks on the kid's lines in an attempt to try and keep them from swallowing it as well. Those little suckers can swallow a bait faster than any other fish I know of.
