My cousin is looking into buying a boat with a mercury 200 efi outboard on it. It's a 1998. He did a compression test and all cylinders came back between 65 and 70. Seems low to me but consistent. The motor hasn't been ran for over 6 months. Is this bad news?
Thanks for any input provided.

My recommendation is contact Lee Marine in Hyrum expert Merc technicians. Here's the number: (435) 245-7727

you should be ok with those readings I assume it's a 2 stroke ,if the gauge is off or the conditions during the test were not right the readings can look low when they aren't but with them being even across the board it should be ok ., if the compression was truly 70 psi it would be very hard to start if it started at all.

Did it fire right up and idle well?
It should start within a revolution or two.

It's kinda low, bout time for rebuild. Might be sluggish trying to get on plane. Their all consistent that's good.
