Strawberry Report 4/19
#1
Since I couldn't catch anything on Friday the 17th at Willard, I decided to go to Strawberry.

We fished between 10 and 3 and caught 2 cutts in the slot. We tried down riggers at 20 to 60 ft. Tried dodgers and squid on them. Tried leaded line with pop gear and worm at 5 to 30 ft. The fish were caught on the pop gear setup.

We fished the Soldier Creek side near the narrows.

Try one of those F-5 UV Fire Tiger minnows down around 35 on the rigger. Usually only produces slot cuts also but that's my go to when they aren't hitting the squid.

Does anyone know if Strawberry was recently stocked? There were a lot of planter size rainbows jumping.

I would say to wait a little while. There were about 5 boats total on the Soldier Creek side in the morning. At 3 pm we were the only boat left on that side of the reservoir.

We were out on Soldier Creek two weeks ago and couldn't seem to keep the little bows off our lines! It was fun for the kids to reel a fish in every other cast, but we really had to search to find any size.

So were the courtesy docks in at the Marina and are they charging the launch fee? I was on SC a week ago Saturday - no docks and the fee station had burlap wrapped around it. Wondered if that had changed.

Thanks

Went up on Monday April 20th - they were putting in the docks today. The single courtesy dock is on the boat ramp on the SC side. No water or restrooms. The camp host is set up for the summer - so it may not be long before facilities are operational.

The fishing was piss poor. We caught 3 slot cutts between 7:30 & 1:00 p.m. The water temp 38.9 degrees all day long. I think the reservoir is in the process of turning over from the winter & has shut the bite off. Otherwise, it was a beautiful day to be on the reservoir!

From the fishing reports I think you are correct the lake is turning over. Give it a week or so, and I think it will pick up.

Thanks OCF and Flounder for the dock and fee info. Was thinking of going up in the morning but with the slow fishing it might be worth the extra fuel to go on over to Starvation.

I was up there on 4/20 at haws point. I fished from 6:15 am to 9:30 am. I caught one 20" cutt and had one other little nibble. The fishing was very slow, believe water is still to cold.

You are welcome. If I could do it over again, I would go to Starvation.

Didn't get to do either. Got up early but the boat wouldn't start. (Started fine last week with a new battery). Spent the day playing boat mechanic - bad starter. Should be going by next week.
