I fished for crappie today, and three different wipers made slashing runs at something (I assume baby shad) within feet of my kayak. Positive ID on them as they booked by at warp speed. I had to wonder if perhaps the shad had gathered under the shade of my boat, only to be attacked by wipers.

(Yes, I came home with dinner.)

I saw some of the same type of action as I passed through an area with my boat. Speedy little suckers![bobhappy]

You peddled past me in the channel, I was on the South side. Had I known it was you I would have said hi.

That's a big model Hobie, pretty wide at the back. Is that a stock seat or did you add that? I sold my kayak last week thinking that I was going to buy a canoe, but the canoe sold before I could get it, so now I am boatless. Well, not boatless, I still have the 19'er sitting in the yard, but no way to tow it.

I hope the fishing was better for you than it was for me.

Stock seat, although I raised it three inches to get a better leg angle to the pedals.

I was out again today and chatted with several BFTers. The chats were better than the crappie fishing. I wonder if their spawn is over - VERY early. The ones I cleaned yesterday were all empty.

Yup. Well, I tried to. There were a grundle of boaters, tubers, kayaks, tooners, canoers, and probably some guy walking on water - and most of 'em were maneuvering for that one hump. And I only saw one or two of them landing fish.

The wind was weird today. Started off blowing hard from the northeast. Abruptly shifted to south for an hour, then back to northwest. Went calm about noon. I fished from two feet deep to 12 and landed one. Let him go because I suspected he'd be the only one I'd get. I was right.

Even had a kitty rod out while I ate lunch. No love there, either.

Rocky, nice meeting you out there. I was the guy in the red tube. The fishing got better after you left. But the fish were not far off that reef over deeper water. I got my limit and left. But it was a slow pick for me.
