I have fished in Utah for over 20 years now and have almost exclusively gone after rainbows and cut throats. Last year my son, daughter, dad and I decided to see if we could catch 10 different kinds of fish to expand our horizons. So far it has been a blast. Last year I caught 8 and my son and daughter each caught 10 different kinds. Dad started late and caught 5.
It has been fun trying new techniques even though we haven't been successful with many of them. We have yet to catch anything with the jigs that TubeDude suggests or with gulp minnows but We will keep trying. It has been more fun experimenting with than powerbait and worms.
Earlier this year we took our first ever trip to Fish Lake. It was as beautiful as everyone has described. Even better, we caught Splake, Perch, and rainbows through the ice. 2 new species for us.
Last month we took our first ever trip to Wilard Bay. We lucked into walleye, wiper, crappie and my dad even caught a catfish (funny that he has always considered them a trash fish.). All 4 of these are new species for us. Also the first time we had caught anything with a rapala.
Our next target is a tiger trout. We went ice fishing 4 times to Scofield this year and, while we did well on the skinny cut throat trout and even a few chubs (not sure that we will count chubs since they are definitely a trash fish [:/]) we never caught a tiger. I am ready to again try somewhere new.
I think we will also try to get to Lake Powell sometime because people's descriptions of those striper boils have me dreaming about them . It sounds like we might even be able to go after large and smallmouth bass while we are there.
I will try to post some pics as we progress on our adventures. If you have any suggestions on where to catch a tiger or two I would love to hear about them.
Happy fishing!

For tigers, go to Huntington Reservoir (also known as Mammoth) off Highway 31 up Fairview Canyon. It's almost exclusively tiger trout in that reservoir, save for a very small population of cutthroat. I just caught my first cutt out of there in 4 years of regularly fishing it when I was there last Sunday, so you're sure to get into tigers. And the Gulp Minnows work like a charm here. Walk along the dam and jig them there, the fish are still in relatively close because the ice came all the way off just last week. You should be able to get into some nice healthy fish.

Up close to Huntington, is Electric Lake. If you go there you could cross off Tiger trout as well as Kokanee salmon. Huntington would definitely be the easier to get a tiger, but electric you might get a plus one.

Another decent spot is up above Strawberry Res. at Current Creek Res, they have some pretty good Tigers there in.

[#0000FF]Always fun to target multiple species. For the best shot on a single water you need to target waters with multiple species. I once got five different species on five successive casts at Starvation. My personal best. But a 4 species day (grand slam) is almost routine at Utah Lake. Willard on a good day but usually not. A "grand slime" (5 species) is possible on a number of Utah ponds. Lake Powell is probably the place with the most species that will all bite in the same areas on the same day.
I am slowing down and don't go fishing as much as in former years. I only got 12 species last year but in previous years managed between 15 and 17.

It's a lot of fun to decide to target a fish you've never caught before. I've only got a couple of Utah sport fish that I haven't caught.
Northern Pike
Tiger Musky
Striper
Wiper
Grayling
Golden Trout
My dad told me that I caught a grayling many years ago when he was working for the Forest Service in the Uintahs when I was 5 or 6, but I don't remember it so it doesn't count. He also thinks I've caught Golden trout, but I don't think I would have been able to hike in far enough at that age to any of the lakes that held them back then (the olden days according to my kids.)
I've had some big Northerns on when I was in high school out of the Sevier river around Delta, but never landed one. I also almost caught one in the Spanish Fork river by the ball parks a little while ago. I had it out of the water with its weight on the line when it started flipping around and gut the line. It wasn't very big, but it would have counted. I've planned a couple of trips to Yuba to get that one off the list, but the weather always goes bad on the days I plan on going. I'll just plan on going every day and the drought will be over!
Another place to target tiger trout is Currant Creek Res up above Strawberry . I've been up there a couple of times and I've been able to catch a dozen or so tigers each time. And I kept them all. [ ] Ok, not really. The only fish I kept on any of the trips was a 4 lb, football-shaped cutthroat that absolutely swallowed the spinner and was hooked in the gills.
Keep us posted on the progress.

I started doing the same thing this past year, it is awesome to live in a place where so many fish species can be caught.
If you want to catch some easy tigers, the Uintah lakes are great. You can also catch graylings, depending on the lake. I have yet to find any of decent size, but some of the lakes are stocked regularly with tiger trout. I've had days of having one on every 10 mins or less.
If you are considering Powell and have not done it, I would highly recommend. Do your homework first as the striper fishing changes depending on the time of year. They are a blast to catch. If you find an active school you can easily fill your cooler in no time at all.
One species still on my targeted list is the Tiger Muskie. Hopefully I can check that one off this year.

I've caught as many as nine species in a single trip to Lake Powell. I just wish it were closer.

So far this year I have caught:
White bass
Bullhead catfish (mud cat)
Channel catfish
Wiper
Crappie
Walleye
And a couple trout that didn't want to be seen or identified with me and chose a long line release[ ].
The year is still young
Trash fish or not I think I would still count a chub since it is a Utah native. Don't have to keep it to count it. I have caught round tail chub in the past as well as a Columbia River squawfish. Put them in my personal counts for something different caught.

I know if I get to 9 and need one more you can bet I will be counting the chub.
We are also taking a picture of us with each species and then going to make a poster out of all the pictures. I did it with the pictures from last year and it was pretty cheap at Walmart.com.
Great memories

It is always fun to broaden one s scope of different fisheries. In the past five years I have fished several different places and have returned to many. I have plans on hitting several more too.

Good luck on your quest. I would second going up to the Uintas for getting some more of your species. Besides being beautiful up there, the fishing is great and with a little preparation and research, you should be able to get a tiger, grayling, and if you want to destroy your vehicle, a golden. You'll have a lot of fun going for it too.
This thread got me thinking about how many species I've caught since the beginning of ice season this year. (14, with a couple more sure to be added soon) They can add up fast once you get going.

Wow, 14 is a big number for this early in the year. What species have you caught so far?

1. Tiger trout
2. Splake
3. Rainbow trout
4. Cutthroat trout
5. Brown trout
6. Mountain whitefish
7. Yellow perch
8. Black crappie
9. Bluegill
10. Green sunfish
11. White bass
12. Largemouth bass
13. Bullhead/Mud cat
14. Channel cat
That is since the beginning of ice season, which would technically be December of 2014. Like I said before, they start to add up fast, so I don't think 14 to be a big deal. Usually, I would have lake trout on the list by now too from getting one on the hard deck but I never did catch a laker through the ice this winter. Smallie, brookie, and maybe walleye will be added soon enough next month.

For your tiger, go to Wall Lake up in the Uintahs. Easy to get to, beautiful scenery, and every other catch will be a tiger.
My son and I have the goal of catching a fish in every county in Utah (we've hit 10 so far). I bit different than your goal. I like the multiple species goal--I'll have to ask my son about making that our next one.
