mantua perch help
#1
Been in a pan fish mood lately, have been catching crappie and blue gill, now time for some perch if possible, do they move into the shallows with the Gillies this time of year? Or do they stay deeper?

My experience at Mantua is when the gills are shallow, the perch are not found along side them. Go deep (well as deep as mantua gets anyway)!

[#0000FF]You can find a few small perch in the same areas as bluegills. But the bigger ones are usually deeper.

Some of my better summer catches of decent sized perch have been in 14 - 16 feet of water...in holes in the weeds or along the edges of visible weed beds. And some of the bigger bluegills hang out in the same areas.

I like to use small tube jigs tipped with crawler. Even better for the perch is a piece of perch meat cut from the first one you catch. And bluegill hit the meat-tipped jigs too...and bass...and trout.

It pays to have a good sonar to find the edges of weeds and to check in the holes for numbers of fish. No need to fish where they ain't.
