UL First timer
#1
launched at the state park a bit after 530am sunday and the whitebass were busting the surface on all the boat ramps...threw on some really small jigs and grubs and boated 6 pretty small whities in about 30 minutes - good start to the day indeed. left the harbor and motored over by the Provo river inlet. We were hoping to target some largemouth and were tossing some cranks, spinnerbaits, spoons for a while. water temps were alot higher than we thought they would be ( 74-77) and didnt have any luck using this approach other than a foul hooked kitty that was a pretty fat in mid 20 inch range. tossed him back and exited the provo inlet area since it was carp city in that area and super shallow.
came back around and fished the dyke where we could ( in between guys working from the bank) . had a few hit and misses by the rocks on rattle traps and small jigs.
decided it was time for some live bait fishing and worked south of the Launch by shoreline lined with reeds. - Nightcrawlers produced another dozen or so Catfish in the next hour and a half. was really impressed with the average size of our catches. also had one moose of a carp hooked that ran me into the reeds and snapped my line. i didnt have a chance on light tackle...all fish were released to fight another day and we were off the water around 11am. the heat was getting crazy!!
didnt realize how shallow that lake is ......glad i took it slow out there, my deep v nailed something in about 4 FOW....( we were well alway from the marked rock hazards byt the dyke) ...anyway , good time on UL and we will be back.
