Had a banner day fishing Deer Creek Thursday, 7/2. My buddy told me last minute he couldn't make it, so I was on my own. I wasn't excited to launch and load the boat by myself, but decided to bite the bullet since I had been anticipating the trip with so much excitement. I had a few frustrations, but it went as well as could be expected. I can't forget to post a BIG "Thank YOU" to the two guys who helped me land in the dark. Never got their names, but they came at the perfect time. I'm sure they couldn't miss me flailing around trying to save my boat from getting bounced off the dock. The wife probably wouldn't let me take the boat fishing again, at all, let alone solo, if I brought it home with a scratch on it[:/].
The smallies are biting, and a blast to catch. I used a roboworm on a drop shot and had some luck. I later switched to a weighless wacky Senko, and caught the majority of my fish. Caught most of 'em on the fall, ripping the bait up, let it sink, set the hook, repeat.
Right as the sun went behind the mountains, I switched to a top water popper. First cast right up next to shore, the popper hit, and within 3-4 seconds, I had a fish on! LOVE top water! All in all, it was a blast! No lunkers, but you won't hear me complaining about size. As one good ole' boy once told me, "tugs is tugs." It would have been nice to have a fishing partner, but it ain't always easy to make fishing the priority... unfortunately for ALL of us![
