Causey with Kayaks?
#1
So this weekend I am headed up to causey with my son to do a little fishing. We are taking the kayak and hoping to catch some fish. But I have not fished at causey in about 20 years and even then it was from the shore. Any tips for a newbie would be greatly appreciated. When I say tips, I mean tips on fishing causey and tips on fishing from a kayak. I have only ever caught two little rainbows from the kayak and I really don't know what I am doing.

We went up there a few weeks ago with our kayaks. The smaller little Jakes were successful with the rainbows. And on Koke. But honestly dragging a worm, or casting it into deep holes was the most successful.. but only for rainbows
hope you guys have a lot of luck!

Do you plan on trolling or bait fishing? If you plan on trolling, do you have lead core line? If you do, that could work for the kokes. If you plan on bait fishing there are a lot of good spots in the back. If you take the right fork there is a nice spot at the back where the water comes in but I think the Jakes lure is a good suggestion. By the way, how much does your kayak weigh?

Thanks for the hints. I probably just plan in bait fishing. I don't have a lead line.

I remember there being some housing up there at causey estates or something like that. Is that we're you are talking about or another spot.

I don't know how much my kayak weighs but it is heavy. It is a "lifetime products" fishing kayak. I have a fish finder that I have tried to put on it but I am not sure how well that will work. Thanks for all the hints and help. Would jigging there work? Would you tip it with anything?

No, causey estates is just one of the two arms by the dam. The forks I'm talking about is in the back, let me see if I can find a map and I'll show you. The reason I was asking about the weight of your Kayak is because it will likely be a good haul, to get them down to the water and back, depending on how much the water level has dropped. If you have a fishing finder that will really help and yes, tip you jig with bait.
If you have a lure called a Buzz Bomb, in pink, that will work for catching kokes while jigging. If not small ice fly jigs will work too, I like to use the pink Rat Finkie. Good luck.

Best jig for my twin and I in the summer up at Causey is the Pumpkin Pepper Tube Jigs.

Thanks for the help guys. I have a pink buzz bomb that I'll make sure to bring, and I have ice flies too. I'll have to give them a try. I am hitting it this weekend so I'll report back on how it went. My 10 year old just read these post with me and he is super excited.
