Nice!!

once the DWR updates their page, each Wiper entry will have an associated "New Castle Reservoir" entry next to it! That's awesome!!

What there to be sorry about, it has long been known the Willard was too shallow to grow large wipers, it was just a matter of time before Newcastle or another lake with deeper water held the new state record for both the catch and release and catch and keep. What is surprising to me is that it took 10 year for Newcastle to get both records. A bigger surprised happened last month a Willard when a 31" wiper was reportedly caught. Since it was not officially weighed or released all we have is a pic and all I can do is drool but it is a very big wiper[shocked].

Nice fish, I am amazed at the size of fish that come out of wilard as shallow as it is and the fishing pressure that the pond sees.

I am betting that if minersville holds enough water for a couple more years those records will change to again...and otter creek is still the wild card. The crazy thing about it taking so long at new castle to get those records is that it has taken minersville only a few years to get them up around 8 pounds!

Have any of the wipers planted in Otter Creek shown up?

Very few, but I don't see any reason not to believe they are there...with the number of them in minersville and as tough as they have been to catch, I wouldn't be surprised if those few stocked in otter creek are there but just hard to catch!

Ironic that we said the same thing about New Castle for about the first 5 years that they stocked them.

then, one summer people started catching them.
I wouldn't be surprised if Otter Creek is the same way. They'll show up at some point...

I'm with you on that Curt, that is a toad wiper. It's funny how the records coming out of Willard are mostly caught by bait fisherman. Shows me these big fish don't chase lures at 3mph anymore but pick easier food to eat. Time to change tactics and find the best big wiper bait to use and the location they like to hang out in. I'm thinking a big chunk of carp meat may do the trick.[fishin]

Very nice New Castle Wiper, congratulations to the angler.

Wormandbobber, Did you make it down to Minersville the other day?

Looking at the stocking reports it looks like Otter Creek and Minersville both started receiving Wipers in 2011.

Minersville has got about 175,000.

Otter Creek has received about 3.2 million. { 2014 shows a 3 million fish dump, think that is a typo?}

Maybe they are not taking hold as well at Otter Creek.

I am not a biologist, but I have seen a few changes at Minersville since the Wipers have been put in there.

They really do seem to have hammered the chubs.

Damsilflys have made a real good come back.

I don't know if the Wipers have anything to do with it or not, but there seems to be less Cormorant and Pelican hangig around Minersville this year and some what less last year.

Crawdads seem to be high in numbers this year, so the Wipers don't seem to have hurt them.

The trout seem to be pretty healthy for this time of year, and biting really good by the way.

On the down side there have been quite a few Small Mouth Fry in the Wipers stomaches lately.

There are still good numbers of the bigger Wipers in Minersville so ye I hope it could kick out a record fish in a couple of years.

Wormandbobber and Curt, check your pm.

Thanks for the info...I haven't made it out there nearly as much as I would like! We did fish that day for several hours and killed the rainbows--it looked like they were targeting damsel fly larva and damsel flies. Fishing for nice bows was almost too easy! We never did find the wipers...we fished the adamsville end near the weeds but never saw or caught any!

The stocking discrepancy between otter creek and minersville wipers is probably not a misprint....the difference though are the sizes--otter creek has been getting sac fry and minersville more fingerling. Survival rates of the sac fry are really low....it sounds like more fingerling are planned for otter creek in the future.

Also, the wipers have really helped the bows and smallmouth at Newcastle...and now it looks like it is happening at minersville too. Sure there will be some predation of juvenile bass but overall their impact has been positive. But, the rainbows at minersville could be in trouble, we saw quite a few fish with red sores which usually show up later in the summer and are a result of low warm water! The fish ou there need some summer monsoons something fierce or we will probably lose a lot of bows!

They have caught a few out of Otter Creek. Here is a post from Otter Creek State Parks facebook page from October 2014.
