Weber River
#1
Went to a new spot on the Weber River this morning and had a great time. I started out throwing a number 7 countdown rapala and the only thing I was catching was a lot of weeds and moss. I the decided to try an ultralight number 6 I caught less weeds, but still no fish. After my ultralight got snagged across the river and broke off I decided it was time to try something new.

A floating number 9 was the next lure in my box so I decided to give it a try. This was the first time I've tried number 9's as most people I've talked to prefer 5 or 7's, but I don't know if I will ever go back. The fishing was pretty steady, and the fish were mostly good sized I'd estimate 14 to 16 inches. I caught 5 fish in about two hours, with 5 or 6 other hits that I wasn't able to land. It was about time for me to go so I made my way back to where I'd started fishing and almost immediately caught the smallest fish of the day. was barely bigger than the rapala it was trying to eat.

I thought about stopping there as it's always nice to stop with your last cast catching a fish, but decided to try a little bit longer. I worked my way a little bit further upstream and cast out 10 or 15 more times when my lure was engulfed by the biggest fish I've ever caught in a river. It was very fat my hand didn't come close to fitting around it, and I didn't have a tape measure but I did measure it roughly with my arm and then came home and measured the same distance and I'd guesstimate the fish was somewhere between 21 and 23 inches long.

I wished I would have had my phone with me to take a picture, but I was glad I didn't on this trip as I got my feet tangled in a branch on the bottom of the river and took a nice swim as I was wading earlier in the morning. I definitely need to get a waterproof camera so I can have pictures of some of these beauties I am catching.

All in all a fantastic morning, but now unfortunately it is time to get back to work.

Nice report, like I always say, big fish eat little fish, they don't eat bugs !

Nice report! Yeah, in the spring when the weeds are small I like to fish a countdown a little deeper, but in late summer you pretty much have to keep it on top. I have many broken rapalas due to smacking them on top of the water to get the moss and grass off them!
