My fishing opportunities have been extremely limited this summer due to shoulder surgery from skiing. But, i got a chance to go out with my buddy from Wisconsin last week and do some serious trolling.
Day 1 : We started the week at strawberry since i have had decent success there and it did not disappoint. fished the north end of the lake after launching from strawberry bay marina. The 17-20" Cutts had us busy from the time we set the lines until we put the boat on the trailer....they hit squids, rapalas, kwik fish in mulitple colors anywhere from 20-35 feet down. Landed a few rainbows but they are were pretty small. We did also land a couple of Kokes... one on a rigger down at 37' and another off the leadcore running off the back . Cleaned and kept the bigger Kokanee at the end of the day , all other fish released. Koke was starting to turn a bit pink as you can see in the first photo.
Day 2 we hit Pineview for the elusive Tiger..... afternoon launch .......power squadron in full force! ......first 4 hours we held on while our planer boards got drowned by big wakes and only had one ugly yellow bullhead to our credit. once the sun dipped below the mountain tops the lake quited down considerably and then the magic started. Bam!! Rod off the back of the boat doubles over , I was lucky enough to be on the hot seat at the time and ended up tangling with my first tiger ......he got sideways and i could feel the power in the fish right away. 80lb braid and a stout rod allowed me to get him to the net pretty quickly .....quick release , photo and celebration ensued and got the trolling spread back out there .
15 minutes later one of our planer boards suddenly runs from the outside to directlly in back of the boat. it was my buddies turn this time. I got 2 other lines in and the planer released. another quick photo and release.......what a day........my buddy says, these Tigers are easy......sure they are!!
Day 3 we went to PV again only to see massive schools of carp swimming through our Tiger area. so we jigged up some crappie for a few hours until dusk and gave them another go......no Tigers
very few fish for me this year but catchin' my first tiger made my summer.......
here's a few pics .
