[cool] Excluding a successful boat drifting expedition to U.L. a couple of weeks ago, the last two shore fishing trips to U.L. got three of us skunked, as the water temps in July and August in the shallows were higher than normal this year due to the low water levels, so most of the cats boogied out to deeper water.
I was thinking about going shore fishing for them again tonight (haven't been shore fishing there in about a month) but I'm not sure if I want to if the water temps haven't dropped any yet and the cats are still out deeper.
Has anybody had success from shore for the cats in the past week or two? If anybody that's been lately FROM SHORE answers this post, I'll be sure to post a report this time. It's been a long time since I've been on this board.
Thanks...

[#0000FF]Hey Geoff, don't waste your time from shore. Last week we went out off Lincoln Point and did not get a touch in water less than about 5 feet deep. And that was at least a couple of hundred yards from the nearest shoreline.
Actually, as the water cools off now the fish are more likely to stay out in deeper water.

Thanks for the reply, Pat. Last September 19th I went down past Lincoln a couple of miles and fished from shore and caught five on just one rod in a couple of hours and missed about twice that many bites. This was during an afternoon/early evening though, so the fish might have been in shallower that afternoon to enjoy some warmer water.
My old friend Mike is hell-bent on going out there to get his girlfriend's daughter into some catfish. I might take him anyway for a couple of hours to the Lindon area, but I'm not expecting much, and I told him not to expect too much either... If we get anything I'll post up a report here this time...

Hey, pay no attention to that crusty ol' Tube Dude.[ ] I been knockin' 'em dead from shore before this last big wind blew in. Going to give it a go again tomorrow a.m.
I was with TD and his better (my pleasure) a couple weeks ago and it was slow fishin'. I have not seen anyone fishing by the springs for a few days... always a couple of wally types fishing out in front of the orchards. The access hole in the fence to the posted property that has been so popular in the past has been blocked off with some big boulders. Access to the first spring is still doable via the LB parking lot.
Out of desperation and in need of a fix I started fishing from the shore around past the orchards. There are cats there and they really go for baby wb. I pick of a half dozen or so cats every time I go. Best luck has been with a baby wb about 2 feet under a bobber. I have not tried a night trip yet. I try to get there in time to ketch a few baby wb that show up for the early morning midge hatch. Good bait. A chunk of carp meat would work too.
Talked to a chap last week that was fishing one of the pump channels and he was catching a few on crawlers and shrimp.
The water in Goshen Bay is way down and the best fishin' seems to be where the bank is a little steeper and rocky. Not sure about the water temp... probably won't drop much until we get some colder air temps.
Anyhow, good luck if you do get out.

[#0000FF]Good luck.
There are a precious few spots around Lincoln Beach that you can walk out on the rocks and chuck out a cast that will reach water deep enough to hold fish. But unless you know the contours of that shoreline you can lose a lot of gear trying to find friendly water. And yes, when water temps get below about 60 the cats will come in closer to shore late in the day to get some warmer temps.
Lindon is super shallow for a long ways out. Unless you have a boat...with shallow draft for getting out of the harbor...you will not likely be able to find fishable water.

[cool]Thanks for the helpful info, Boatloadakids. I have seen people fishing that spot where it's really rocky down there around the point and just about where the orchards start. I've seen facebook photos from a couple of Utah fishing related pages where people were having success in that spot, but I usually go about 2 miles past that where there's a little less people and pressure. I will keep that spot in mind though going forward, as people always seem to catch fish down there.
It was slow at LindonHarbor last night, but mission was accomplished about getting my friend's girlfriends's daughter into a nice catfish. I posted about it...

[cool]Thanks, Pat. Great advice as always. I'm excited for the water temps to drop a bit more in the next couple of weeks and then the daytime shoretangling should improve to where it was last late Sept, and I plan to take advantage of it... I'll post here. We got Mike's girlfriend's daughter into a six-seven pounder (in my guestimation) last night and I'm pretty sure she's now hooked on catfishing and knows why we head out to that muddy lake now, lol.

[#0000FF]Congrats on initiating another person into the ranks of cataholicism. Even if she is a lady tangler.
I will be spending some time off Lincoln in the next few weeks...both for a contest kitty and for the walleyes that should be coming in now.
By the way, I still have this picture of you and your beautimus beast you caught those many years ago. It still ranks up there amongst the ugliest.

Good job on getting the little lady a nice cat. They are there, just hard to reach them now.
I took one of my g-sons out this a.m. and we managed to catch four and missed a few others -- a little too windy. There were several other tanglers along the shore and a few of them caught fish. Got a pic of g-son with a couple cats -- nothing as big as the one your little lady caught.
It was good to get out again but always to see the way people trash the area. Didn't have a trash bag with me or I would have tidied up after the pigs left.
I was surprised to see several boats on the water. Two big boats way out in the middle pulling skiers that must have launched out of Provo. There were about six empty trailers in the LB parking area and it looked like there were boats out by the island and others out in front of the orchard. Tough launch. We watched as a couple of boats launched and it was pretty obvious when their trailers dropped off the end of the cement. One guy had no trouble launching and pulling his trailer out. Another guy dropped over the edge and unloaded but had big trouble pulling his empty trailer out.The trailer was a double axle and he had to really hit it hard to jump the trailer up onto the cement. It looked like he pushed the front axle back so the tires on one side were wedged together. Ouch.
It looks like there is still a foot or so of water in the channel. There were boats that were bigger than mine that went out so I'm gong to give it another go too. I'll take hip boots with me just in case I have to get out and push ... maybe a push-pole, or maybe try it with just the electric?? A smart person would just wait until the water temps cool and fish from a toon/tube. Not sure if it will be cheaper to have a wrecker come from Spanish Fork or Payson... I'll be sure to post some pics.
The worst is yet to come.

Lol, Pat!
Yes, that was one ugly beast, alright! It's amazing how beat up those males get during the spawn! I caught that in late June 2003 at the second Spring during a drought year similar to this one. Still my biggest kittie to date, at 30 inches lo general and approximately 10-12 lbs. I've caught a few 8 pounders since, but never as big...yet...
Good luck with the wascally walleyes and huge cats this fall. I'm hoping to get a tube or pontoon next Spring, but in the meanyime, I aim to get my kiddos I to some cats from shore this fall, down there...
Here's a pic of a nice female I got into at Pelican Harbor in June:

BLK, glad to hear that you and the grandkids got I to some nice cats this morning.
Yes, it amazes me how many pigs fish Utah Lake and just ASSume that someone else will come and clean up their mess and wipe their backsides for them. Apparently their parents were trash and didn't raise them right.
It rely is crazy how low that lake is, and that story about the guy with the double axle trailer. Some people have to learn most lessons the hard way, eh? Let's all pray/meditate/ya ink happy thoughts for a huge snowpack winter for all over the West...

The garbage being left at rec sites is getting terrible. It's not just shorelines its campsites too. I haven't seen anyone in the act so I don't know who the main culperates are I just see/find the aftermath. One thing is for sure.... There is no shortage of little piggys running around.

Been there and done that before on Utah Lake, many moons ago in the new Saratoga Springs marina, and don't want to do it again. The water wasn't even low, but the boat ramp was designed poorly. Great fun driving all the way home on Redwood Road with the trailer going sideways down the road, not to mention the cost to get the trailer repaired.
