Finally got out to fish. Decided to check out Starvy. Game plan was to see if I could locate some perch schools and then try to get some walleyes and /or trout depending on wind. Was a little windy when I launched but that soon died done and never picked up again. Good news is I found several large perch schools mostly 8 to 10 inchers with a few bigger ones in the mix. Looks like next year should be good. I also caught a few walleyes and smallmouth while targeting the perch. One nice 18" smallmouth had me running around the boat for a bit. Rabbit gulch was the best area for perching. Most of the schools were on the shallow side 8 to 12 foot depths but in one area I found the perch schooled up in 20 feet. Best combo was perch meat and a 1/16 oz jig. Tried a 1/8 and 3/16 jig to try to get deep faster but the perch had no interest in the heavier jigs. I seldom got the 1/16 to the bottom. Just had the right fall for the perch.
Although I also spent 3 hours trolling I never landed a rainbow. A few light hits and rod rattles but nothing to the net. I usually catch a few trout while perching but that didn't happen either. They just had lockjaw.
