Another nice bass out of Daybreak, he ate a big hunk of salty chicken.
I would guess 3 lbs and 16 to 17 inches.
Fishing at night is starting to feel like ice fishing.

I'll make you a deal. You throw back the breeders and I'll get you a nice fillet knife for those cats.

I understand how you guys feel about catch and release on the larger breeders.
In almost all the bass I catch I do release, I do catch one now and then with a 5.0 hook and a 2 inch hunk of chicken stuck down there throat.
My thoughts are that he's not going to make it so why put him back to die.
Do you or anyone else think that fish would have lived, I don't.
Thanks but no thanks to the gifts.

And this mentality is one of the many reasons why bass fishing in Utah isn't as good as it could be.

Thank you for taking the time to post and thank you for your reasoned response to criticism. Please don't let the naysayers keep you from posting in the future.
It doesn't sound from your bait like you were targeting bass, and you were entirely within your rights as a licensed angler to keep one of your two fish limit anyway. Choosing not to release what you believed to be a mortally wounded fish seems like a reasonable choice too.
Congratulations on a nice catch.
