Strawberry chickens
#1
Took my (14' aluminum) boat up to Strawberry Sunday (12/6), When we got to the lake it was 9 deg. We looked at ourselves in cowboy boots and tennis shoes and remembered that it was about 34 deg. when we passed Jordanelle. The Jordanelle ramp was ice free, and the morning was calm. The fishing was pretty fast for dink rainbows attacking Rapalas almost as big as they were, and a few nice browns that liked Triple Teasers and Needlefish (go figure). Not the fastest fishing I have had, but a fun day with my grandson. Early afternoon wind, and 4 frozen feet got us thinking about the heater in my Jeep.
By the way, am I the only one that changes out the treble hooks on my Rapalas for singles. Makes releasing fish much easier on me and the fish. I don;t think I miss many strikes, but really have no way to know that.

Nice report...[cool] I have changed out table hooks to single hooks on spoons in the past. Works fine for me.

I have used a pair of side-cut pliers to take off the hook that hangs straight down on the treble. It really helps in weedy places like Mantua. It also makes releasing easier. I have not replaced them with single hooks though.

Reminds me of when I took a guy fishing to Strawberry I believe in November several years ago. He showed up wearing shorts. I told him that I thought he was going to be sorry that he wasn't dressed for the cold. He replied, "I thought Strawberry was out in the desert". He was certainly grateful that I had a blanket on the boat for him to wrap up in.
