********************* Carters Lake Report ******************** 01/19/04 The lake is 5 ft. below full pool, clear and the surface temp is 43 degrees. STRIPERS: The striper fishing is on and off. We are having some very good days with some very good catches of nice size fish, but we are also having a few very slow days. the best days seem to be during the warming up periods just before the cold fronts. lots af bait fish and stripers are still in the major creeks and up the Coosawatee river and some fish can also be found on main lake points at the mouth's of the creeks. Umbrella rigs are producing a few fish trolled over main lake points in 15 to 20 ft. of water but the best thing going has been the live baits such as trout, shinners and shad fished on free lines, balloons or plainer boards 80 to 100 ft. behind the boat early, late or when the sky is overcast. when the sun is high try down lining the baits 20 to 40 feet under the boat. SPOTTED BASS:SPOTTED BASS: Fishing for the spott's is good. some good fish are being caught on rockledges with wood cover in the creeks and up the Coosawatee river. One bait that is working well for us is Prowler's "Saw Craw" in the dusty pine color. finesse worms on the texas rig or drop shot as well as a jig and pig in borwn, black or black and blue. most of these fish will be holding 25 to 35 ft deep but will move up and down with weather changes and lake levels. with water temps in the low 40's the key is to fish as slow as you can and then slow down even more. jiging spoons under baitfish in 35 to 40 ft. of water is also catching some fish.
