Hit Holmes creek reservoir with mackinaw fisher today. Fished a couple hours and got 4 little trout, 2 bass, and 2 perch. Missed a ton of fish too. Second bass was bigger than the one in the picture

There were a couple other people fishing it. Ice was 4 inches. But it was in the transition from bad ice to good ice. I would recommend waiting till Monday or Tuesday.

That use to be such a good fishery for big gills and crappie back in the day before the DNR ruined it. [:/]

I decided to make a quick visit to Holmes yesterday afternoon. 3 or 4 other people had the same idea.
I only popped 4 holes but ice was +5" everywhere I checked. Fish were showing up on the finder but skunks were the catch of the day.
I dropped my AquaVu camera down to see what was happening below deck. I saw small schools of small lethargic crappie hanging out a few feet off the bottom in 24 FOW. They were chewing the wax worm off the hook without making my spring bobber move at all. Saw a few small trout cruise through around 10' deep.
In past years location has been key to success here. It may take a bit of moving around to find hungry fish.
