Went to Pineview yesterday evening......
I have heard some reports of 5" of ice...may be true but sure not the case in the Browning Point area. 3 1/2" only and that is with a tape measure. We had a group of 5 in a tent and we had to kick a few out to spread the weight out...it was cracking and popping and flooding the ice pretty good. The first person to take a 4 wheeler or snowmobile out there is going to lose it
..
Regarding fishing it was not good ....very disappointing as we were dialed in there last year. The water is much lower this year so the depths are different (when using geographic points as a means of finding your spots from years past.
I literally made swiss cheese of the ice in the entire Browning Point area , from 15' of water out to 45' of water, went East, West you name it....The ONLY fish marked were at 40' and right on the bottom. My gut tells me they were small perch...I fished then for awhile and could only elicit a tiny nibble....the marks were small...so totally thinking they were baby perch.
Last year we consistently found Crappie in that area in 42' of water...
I'll keep looking!
