Ice Fishing at Pineview
#1
Weather was great from sunrise to noon. First trip of the season and plan to do lots more. Sadly though, the fishing was slow to null. Started out at Middle Creek with 8"of ice and waters between 15-20ft.in depth. No action, so I decided to proceed to the tent village at Cemetery point. Met up with some friends hoping for some action but none to be found. Moved to Anderson cove then left around noon with only a bite in the 30ft. depth range.

-Gorgeous day, but the fish didn't want to play-

Any time fishing is better than work. Heard that the 40-45' range up about 5-8 feet off the bottom is where they are at. I'm heading up there on the 23 hope we have a better time catching than you did but fishing is fishing.

Ain't that the truth. Alot can change in a couple weeks. I read the perch where hanging around the 30ft. range. I'll probably head back up next weekend. Would like to try a couple other places during the week. I figured the fish are hungry no matter what day or time of the week it is. Just got to find out where they are.

I was up there today with my son. We started off on the south side of cemetery point in 33 FOW. We saw a few come up and take a look but no takers. Switched sides of the lake and went to 45 FOW north of cemetery point and hooked 5 crappie and 5 perch. Nothing of any great size. The bite started about 1130 and ended about 1230 with a few stragglers after that. The deeper water seemed to be the key for us. Give it a shot!

I live in Eden and fish Pineview a few times per week on the ice. My best success is in the 40' depth 1 -2 cranks from the bottom. It wasn't until I put the most sensitive strike indicator on my pole and the use of a fish finder that I was able to catch limits quickly. At that depth the fish are neutralized by the time they get to the surface, so every one is a keeper.

I went to PV yesterday. Arrived at 1:00. Fished at tent city on the outskirts in 40' of water. Caught one within 20 min. Slowed right down after that, I didn't catch another fish till sunset. Lots of lookers on the scanner but no takers. Like I said fishing picked up from sunset into the dark. I left at 10:00, because the sign at the gate. Not sure if I would get toed or not. Put 12 on ice all crappie only one broke 11" but a better avarage size than last year.

I had the spring bobber attached to one of my poles with no action that could be seen.

Will try to go deeper FOW next time and fish more from the bottom. I was hitting the bottom, reel it in a couple then sit for a bit, jig it for a bit, reel it in a couple then sit for a bit. Repeat through 20 ft. Mainly trying to find out where the fish were was my thoughts.

Might have time to head up again this weekend.

For us and Crappie they will suck in offering and the indicator will rise ever so slightly. You have to see that difference as it's ever so slight. Yes you will have some that hit and you'll without a doubt see most don't from our hard deck experience. Like I said Perch are more ratty tat tat and indicator shows it clearly. Agreed get deeper get a topo map like the fish-n-map co. Find the contours of the body of water. Where we fished was 40-45' of water off a break in bottom contour...It worked for us. All the best and you'll get into them...
