First time fishing for burbot and using tip ups. Bought a few of the frabill pro thermal tip ups to use at the bash. My main question is what style and size hook works best? Any other advice for rigging burbot tip ups is appreciated! Hoping to hammer some this coming weekend!

I've always just rigged them with a jig- 1/4 oz head with a Yamamoto grub, both in glow. Some nights they work great. Other nights like we had last week, almost all of our Burbot came while jigging, and all of mine were on Buckshot spoons. Throw it all out and see what they want though. Good luck!

I think I'm going to rig mine with a larger than normal treble hook loaded up with sucker meat and just pull it off the bottom slightly. I don't figure there's much point in using glow stuff if I don't reel it in to recharge it very often.

I wouldn't use an oversized treble. They like to mouth at the baits and from my experience there is no reason to go too big hook wise. Just make sure you have a decent gap between the bait and barb that's the size you'll want? If that makes sense.
Some other things to consider. From my experience...
Dead-stick rods / tipups can work great for them, but if I were you I would use nightcrawlers instead of sucker. 2 worms per hook... the movemen the worms put off really helps them find it. I've done okay with fresh sucker dead-sticking too... 6"-12" off the bottom... I think the burbot basically just run into your sucker unintentionally and eat it. But some movement is best imo.
Fresh sucker definitely for your active jigging rod... Northland Tackle Buckshot spoons were the best thing I found to use for jigging.
Good luck!

I use 6 different lures tipped with FG Carp steaks. 5 on jaw jackers and on jigging rod paired with a flasher.
I find out what color they like and I switch 3 of the poles over to that color. Saturday was slow, so I didn't switch any. I caught two on glow pink bullet jig, one on glow chartreuse tube, and one on glow white bullet jig.
Most of the Burbs I have caught have been on glow colors without a charge. On occasion, I have caught fish right after re-glowing, but more often than not it is in the water for long enough for the glow to wear off.
I cut a 1/2 to 1 inch x 2 to 2.5 inch piece of carp steak to tip the jigs with.
I start one pole at 25' and work my way with the other 5 to 10'.
Most of the time I feel catching a Burbot is a serendipity. They appear and eat it or they appear and do not eat it and move on.

Thanks for the tips! I will definetly take some crawlers with me and try those too. Can't wait to get up there!
