My buddies and I hit Strawberry yesterday (Monday). I had read reports of slow fishing near the easier access points (wonder why? haha). So the guys and I decided to hike all the way across to Haws point from the marina. It paid off, as we got into numerous cutts, some pushing and probably surpassing the 22" mark but we did not keep any. No rainbows surprisingly, we were using bigger tubes though. White tubes in the 3"-4" size with a pink hue and black spots were the ticket (pink pearl pepper). We threaded half a crawler on the hook and slid it up into the tube so that the crawler was in line with the hook shank.
The ice is quite thick up there and there was no slush. The top 10-12" of ice is solid frozen slush ice and is cloudy, while the bottom 12-14" is solid clear ice. That is a lot to drill through with a hand auger, [pirate]
I'm including a few pics. Unfortunately we didn't get shots of a couple bigger fish, but we wanted to get them back in the hole asap and the camera was not on hand at those moments.
