A friend and I fished Millsite today from our tubes. The ice is completely gone off the reservoir. We fished from 10:00 and my friend left about 1:30 and I fished until 3:00. We were using fly tackle with fast sinking lines and size 6-10 buggers, leeches, and soft hackles. We got a mix of cutthroats, tigers, and rainbows with the largest fish, a rainbow, going 19". Most of the fish were in the 13" - 15" range. The water temp was 43-46 degrees and the visibility about 3' - 4'. The reservoir level is at 55% and rising slowly.
I've attached a crude map for anyone that hasn't been there.
Slow fishing but a nice day to be on the water.

Thanks for your report. One of the few bodies of water in Utah that I have never fished. May need to check it out one of these days.

thanks for the report. Was eye balling Millsite on google earth last week at church wondering if it was low enough to be ice free. Got the itch to get back in the tube and Im on the other side of the MTN from it in Gunnison. May have to make the drive around to it and get the fly rod out.

This would be the year to give it a try. The BOR is going to replace the spillway and raise the dam starting this spring. They will be pulling the level down during the summer to do the work so the fishery will be down for a couple of years.

They seem to pull the water down pretty low almost every year there but a lot of the fish seem to carry over okay. I used to fish it a lot when I came over that way and got blown off Nine Mile. It's too bad they can't keep enough water in Nine Mile to carry fish over.[:/] The fish grow pretty fast in there.
