Willard on the fly
#1
Hit the South Marina at Willard today. Went out in my kickboat and caught a half dozen Wiper on my flyrod. They really liked white and grey Clousers. Fished untill noon when the wind picked up. Lots of boats and shore Anglers out today.

Thanks for the report and pictures. That sounds like a good day this early in the season.

Did you pick up any other fish besides the wipers? Did you happen to notice the water temperature?

Wipers are a lot of fun on a fly rod. Heck they are a lot of fun on any kind fishing rod.[Wink]

The water temp was around 49 degrees depending on location, it ranged between 48.3 up to 50 degrees.

Thanks.

It doesn't take the water long to warm up after the ice is gone. These warm days have helped too.[Wink]

I have some white/grey baitfish patterns, do you think these will work? I also have clousers.

I think those would work great. They look very similar to mine.

Getting the boat ready for Spring Willard fishing.
Last year I did well for Crappie inside the Marina with my fly rod.
I will be using the fly rod more from the boat this year and going after Wiper.

In the past I have caught Wiper on my fly rod from shore but I will be spending more time with it on the boat this year.
Can't wait.

I need to get a new fire extinguisher before I take the boat to Willard though.
