fish report Causey and Pineview
#1
Pontoonfool and I went up to Causey today to do some fishing and decided it was way too steep to go down the dam and then come back up again. We headed for Pineview. It was windy and snowing and the water of the lake was a dark brown color. there was about 10? inches of ice. We fished for about 2 hours and not even got a nibble. There were other people on the lake and we did not see a fish come up. We know they were there because pontoons fish finder showed us a school that kept passing right under us but not biting. No luck today for fishing.

Man, thats odd for pineview to be so slow for so long!!! Maybe the Muskies are finally starting to catch up with Perch population??

It could be the Muskies are eating just like a teenager,[Wink] I don't know, but it would have been nice to catch one.

I went to Causey Saturday. We arrived about 7:30 am and fished until 3:30. We caught a ga-zillion 6-8 inch splake on worms and wax worms. We fished in 30 ft of water. One school of kokanee came by and visited for about 5 minutes. We pulled in 5. All were over 12 inches. Our hooks were too big and they had trouble biting them. The school was at 5-10 ft. We watched them thru the hole. Once we switched to the size 8 hook, we had little trouble bringing in the splake. It was a warm day, we were up near the top of the right arm from the dam. Not too many fishermen, but lots of snowmobilers. Ice was over a foot thick. Probably close to 16 inches. That hike up the dam is a killer pulling a 100 lb sled. The use of a rope and a second person pushing made it bearable.

It was strange, a school would come by like clockwork every 5 to 10 min. but not a bite. Thanks for going with me Dan, maybe we'll have better luck next time.

Thank you for the tip. We looked down the dam and figured it would be to much trouble to even try to get down and then drag the sleds back up. Maybe next time. I need to lose weight and get in better shape for that.

I think I'm the one who needs to get in shape Dan. That and pack a lighter sled.

If you take a 100 ft rope, you can make it in two pulls. If you take two 100 ft ropes, you can tie it off to your truck and pull them up. I keep saying I am going to do that, but I keep forgetting the 2nd rope. A walkie talkie would be handy also so you can talke to the driver.

You Know, I was thinking about that. Take my climbing rope and a pulley and rig it up to the top and topline down. Then use it to pull the sled back up.

You are in good shape Pontoonfool, it is definitey me that needs alot more time in the gym. Thanks for taking me with you and next time east canyon? You said how much you weighed and I hate to tell you that I am only about 15lbs lighter than you and a lot smaller. It used to not be that way when I was stationed at ST3 in Coronado.

Have to agree with you there. Quite the little hike out of each one. Been to both places recently and I felt that Lost Creek was more work but more worth while too.. Several people slipped in the slick path at Lost Creek and didn't stop till they hit the lake. One guy got run over by his sled.. Ouch!
